On September 22, 2019 we lost a giant – my daddy, Mathew (Mathias) Simien entered the spirit world and rejoined with my mom, his beautiful bride, Ethel Rene Simien and his parents Lila & George Simien.
His service was befitting a man who was loved fiercely by his family, church and community. It was officiated by Bishop Deshotel and 14 priests joined my brother, Fr. Greg Simien in a remarkable show of love and respect for him as a priest in the Lafayette Parish Diocese. They chanted and their long robes flowed elegantly as they walked out in front of my daddy’s casket. He would have been so pleased. Me & my daughter Marcella sang the spirituals accompanied by Danny Williams, Lance Ellis and Shelton Sonnier on their instruments.
We sent him off on what would have been his 61st wedding anniversary to Ethel. They were married in the same church, St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
